Bill Jones - Head Coach
Bill Jones is entering his 6th season as head coach of NBL Canada’s Windsor Express. During his time with the Express, Coach Jones was named NBLC Coach of the Month three times and has led Windsor to over 100 wins and two consecutive league championships.
Prior to joining the Express, Jones coached first the Detroit Wheels and then the Detroit Panthers to winning seasons in the American Basketball Association and then the Premier Basketball League. While with the Panthers, Jones won a divisional championship in 2006-07.
Jones has also had an extensive pro playing career since graduating from the Iowa Hawkeyes program in 1988. He’s played with the New Jersey Nets of the NBA and the Quad City Thunder in the CBA, where he was the team’s all time leading scorer and named an All-CBA 2nd Team All-Star. Jones also played internationally, splitting nine professional seasons in France and Italy.
As head coach of the Windsor Express, Jones has mentored numerous players who have gone on to pro careers overseas, including Greg Surmacz, Stefan Bonneau, George Goode, Darren Duncan, Quinnel Brown, and Tony Bennett. Additionally, Jones has sent Lester Prosper and Rudy Bowman to the NBA’s D-League.
Since 2015, Jones has held the coaching portfolio dually as the Vice President of Basketball Operations responsible for travel and player development.
Pete Cusumano - Assistant Coach
A long time on the Windsor basketball scene, Pete Cusumano has been coaching basketball at the high school level since 1980, including 29 years at Windsor’s Catholic Central HS. Over the years, Coach Cusmano has led his teams to three provincial championships, two silver medals, and two bronze medals, as well as 17 regional championships.
During his time in scholastic basketball, Cusumano has developed nine players who were selected as Royal Arcanum winners, eight players named Mr Basketball, and 34 players named All-City. His teams in the Ontario Basketball Association have won three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze between 2002 and 2005.
Cusumano was appointed Tournament Convenor at the WSSAA, WECSSAA, OFSAA, and OBA levels 24 times since 1990, and has organized youth basketball summer camps since 1985 with three different organizations.
In 1998, Cusumano founded the Core City Hoops Association, a non-profit corporation which provides basketball opportunities for youths in Windsor tied into educational and nutritional programs and in 2017 was selected to the Essex County Sports Hall Of Fame.
